Bleu Hound Grille 80 E. Tennessee Ave., Oak Ridge, 481-6101. This innovative restaurant’s New American seasonal menu emphasizes fresh, local and organic ingredients. Lunches feature “bleu plate” specials.

Bonefish Grill 6604 Kingston Pk., 558-5743. Bonefish Grill has created a signature menu with a stellar collection of market fresh fish cooked over an oak-burning grill.

Boonedocks Grill 2932 Boat Dock Rd., Louisville, 982-7780. Chef Rick Simek makes crab cakes, coconut shrimp and grouper sandwiches. It’s on the water and boater-friendly, offering live music on the patio every Friday and Saturday.

Breakers Sports Bar 5000 Clinton Hwy., 688-6475. This sports bar serves wings, burgers, homemade chili, sandwiches and salads. They’ve got 18 pool tables, three dart boards and two Golden Tees, including a big screen Golden Tee.

Cumberland Grill 1807 Cumberland Ave.,673-3411. The student-friendly lunch and dinner menu emphasizes appetizers, salads, sandwiches and six kinds of burgers.

Downtown Grill & Brewery 424 S. Gay St., 633-8111. Fresh hand-crafted brews, mesquite-grilled specialties, jumbo pastas and salads are served in an historic downtown setting with a patio.

Downtown Grind 418 S. Gay St. at the Phoenix, 544-7751. This small café serves gourmet coffee products as well as fresh baked pastries, scones, muffins and gourmet cakes.

Fuddruckers 8851 Towne and Country Cir., 531-9494. This family-friendly restaurant offers chicken, salads, steak and ostrich along with “the world’s greatest hamburger.” Kids eat free Mon.-Wed. after 4 pm.

Green Hills Grille 4429 Kingston Pk., 558-0091. The Green Hills Grille offers awesome food, wonderful service, beautiful fire lit dining rooms, generous portions and great prices.

The Half Barrel 1829 Cumberland Ave., 595-4848. Knoxville’s newest multi-tap bar also offers salads, sandwiches, appetizers such as fried pepper jack cheese orbs and hummus and “pub plates” such as satay chicken and a Cajun tofu platter.

Hanna’s Cafe Multiple Locations. There is something for everyone when the menu includes calzones, sandwiches, burgers and salads.

Jenna’s at Choto Choto Rd., 966-3232. Jenna’s offers indoor or outdoor dining overlooking beautiful Ft. Loudon Lake. The upstairs club features pool table, poker table and live music on weekends. 

Kaleido Scoops Ice Cream & More 120 Jack Dance St., 693-4541.  This ice cream parlor serves creamy ice cream made to order, sundaes, smoothies and shakes along with iced coffee drinks called “kaleidochills.”

Kingston Alley Grill & Ale House 7355 Kingston Pk., 766-0464. Kingston Alley features freshly baked bread and beef ground in-house. Also popular are the game room, pool tables and sporting events on state-of-the-art TVs.

Litton's 2803 Essary Dr., 688-0429. Voted best burgers and desserts too many times to count in the Best of Knoxville poll. Litton's is the restaurant you take your out of town friends to for a taste of Knoxville.

Macleod’s 501 Market St., 546-2103. This downtown restaurant, serving lunch and dinner, prepares batter-dipped fish, chicken tenders, great sandwiches, burgers and entree specials.

Manhattan’s Bistro and Bar 101 S. Central St., 525-2333. Delicious personal pizza, wonderful seafood items and handcrafted sandwiches are served in a warm, lively atmosphere with full bar and live music.

Michael’s 7049 Kingston Pk., 588-2455. Cozy, intimate dining or bright lights, lots of friends, great music and dancing have made Michael’s a destination for fine food and a landmark for good times since 1981.

Oskie’s Sports Bar and Grill 155 West End Ave., Farragut, 675-0900. This sports bar with 25 TVs, three big screens and a long Happy Hour (11-7 weekdays) offers  wings, pizza, burgers, salads, grilled Mahi, steak and lunch and dinner specials.

Parkside Tavern 338 N. Peters Rd., 862-5358. The Tavern offers comfort food with a flare. Signature items include tavern beer cheese soup, parmesan crusted grouper and tender, juicy filet mignon.

Paul’s Oasis 8021 Kingston Pk., 690-9388. Paul’s features pizza, hot sandwiches, pasta, wings, salads and burgers.

Pete’s Coffee Shop-Restaurant 540 Union Ave., 523-2860. Pete’s serves “blue plate” specials daily along with sandwiches, salads and desserts.

Rick’s Place 1637 Downtown West Blvd., 693-4028. Rick’s offers the “biggest wings” in Knoxville. A new menu features ribeye steak sandwich, chicken fingers platter, pizzas, calzones, hot wings and grilled chicken sandwiches.

Riverside Tavern 950 Volunteer Landing, 637-0303. The Tavern’s casual, yet upscale, cuisine comes with a fabulous view at this riverfront spot. Specialties include Riverside chicken pasta, grilled ahi tuna and an 8 oz. filet mignon.

Sassy Ann’s House of Blues 820 N. Fourth Ave., 525-5839. In addition to live entertainment, Sassy Ann’s offers a delicious menu of fresh, moderately priced favorites, with entrees served until 10 pm nightly.

Sawyer’s of Knoxville Multiple Locations. This casual restaurant was voted “Best Buffalo Tenders” in Metro Pulse’s 2003 Best of Knoxville readers’ poll.                 

Silver Spoon/The American Cafe Multiple Locations. Favorites from the menu of unique recipes gathered from across America include smoked chicken pasta pie, French quarter salmon and Texas-sized BBQ ribs along with their signature tomato dill soup.

Urban Bar & Corner Cafe 109 N. Central St., 546-2800. This café in the heart of the Old City offers a full bar with a wide beer selection, outdoor seating and food until late at night.

Buddy’s Bar-B-Q Multiple Locations. Celebrating 32 years of serving East Tennessee real hickory smoked BBQ. Buddy’s was voted “Best BBQ,” once again, in Metro Pulse’s 2006 Best of Knoxville readers’ poll.

Calhoun’s Multiple Locations. Calhoun’s features delicious barbecued ribs and other specialties such as fried Southern catfish, grilled steaks, chicken and seafood.

Dixson Bar-B-Q 1201 E. Magnolia Ave., 525-9305. Dixson’s offers fine, spicy ribs and chicken, for eat in or takeout, along with spicy cowboy beans and delicious desserts on a “cash only” basis.

F.A.T.S. BBQ Carry Out & Catering 2701 Whittle Springs Rd. at Washington Pk., 524-1929. This casual North Hills take-out and catering place serves true hickory-smoked pork BBQ plus chicken, ribs, excellent homemade side dishes, hamburgers and hot dogs.

Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Q Multiple Locations. Featuring beef, pork, chicken and ribs, Sonny’s has been slow-smoking authentic Southern Bar-B-Q over real hardwood since 1968.

The Bourbon Street Cafe 1908 Schofield Ave., 637-7537. Chef Nedra Grey doles out home-cooked New Orleans dishes.

The Coffee Shoppe Internet Café 104 Hotel Rd., 357-6693. This café specializing in coffees, espressos, cappuccinos and mochas also serves toasted sandwiches, hot snacks and its signature “bangin’ Angus burger” and “heart stopper hot dog.”

Cosmo’s Cafe at Gourmet’s Market 5107 Kingston Pk. at Mohican St., 584-8739. Flavor is the word at Cosmo’s, a classic cafe serving coffees and fine teas; freshly baked croissants, brioche and quiche; French baguette sandwiches with premium meats and cheeses; soups, salads, sides and specials. Breakfast is also served 7-10 am. seven days a week.

Earthfare 10903 Parkside Dr., 777-3877. This natural grocery store has a soup and salad bar, hot food service line, sushi bar, deli and a “grab’n’ go” section as well as a juice smoothie and coffee bar, where beverages are made to order.

Hogan's Bakery and Cafe 6638 Kingston Pk. 584-9888. Fresh soup and sandwiches are made from scratch daily at this locally owned full service bakery.

Kalamata Cafe 9405 S. North Shore Dr. 531-2363. Former Farragut fave updated for a quicker, more casual serving of Greek-inspired dishes.

Little Barista’s Coffee & Tea 123 E. Broadway St., Lenoir City, 988-4167. Little Barista’s offers full service gourmet coffees and tea, homemade soups, fruit smoothies, salads and sandwiches, plus other goodies.

The Lost Savant 5703 N. Broadway, 689-9990. This is not your average coffee shop. They offer country smoked hams and turkey pulled from the bone along with “world class salad” and locally baked desserts.

Magpies 112 S. Central St., 673-0471. This lip-smacking bakery features homemade pies, desserts, banana pudding and chocOgasms. Magpies, specializes in custom wedding and celebration cakes.

Old Mill Bread Company 432 N. Cedar Bluff Rd., 470-7342. For almost 10 years, Jim and Janet have been baking the freshest whole wheat products to be found in this area, always baked from scratch in the tradition of the neighborhood bakery of years gone by as well as offering a wide selection of jams, jellies, preserves, marmalades, soups and other unique gift items.

Panera Bread Multiple Locations. Panera specializes in sandwiches, soups, salads, bagels, mouth-watering pastries and breads galore, plus cappuccinos, mochas and all that caffeinated jazz.

Pete’s Cafe 603 Main St., Medical Arts Bldg. 525-8816. A mainstay in downtown Knoxville, Pete’s Café offers home cooked meals, large sandwiches, salads and good homemade desserts.

Rita’s Bakery 3028 Tazewell Pk., 688-5484. Rita’s specializes in cakes of every type: chocolate, red velvet, Italian cake, carrot cake and cheesecake. The cute thumbprint shortbread cookies with butter cream icing are a big seller.

Sacred Grounds 9915 Kingston Pk., 531-4709. They offer basic breakfast items, sandwiches, salads and soups with an emphasis on a hot daily lunch special.

VG’s Bakery 11552 Kingston Pk., 671-8077. This old school bakery in Farragut features crusty breads, tender scones, big cookies, real éclairs and a full line of delicious baked goods. They also offer beautifully decorated cakes made to order.

Chinese

Dragon Den 10205 Kingston Pk., 691-4529. Their specialty is Peking duck, served with Mandarin pancakes and Hoisin sauce (no MSG used).

Dynasty Express 1647 W. Cumberland Ave., 544-0256. They serve a traditional Chinese menu along with vegetarian meals.


Oasis Buffet 2011 N. Broadway, 633-9003. This fairly new restaurant offers an extensive buffet.

P.F. Chang’s China Bistro 6741 Kingston Pk. at Papermill Dr., 212-5514. P.F. Chang’s was voted “Best Restaurant” and “Best New Restaurant” in Metro Pulse’s 2003 Best of Knoxville readers’ poll.

The Plum Tree 7052 Kingston Pk., 588-2002. The Plum Tree offers moderately priced Chinese specialties, from Mandarin to Cantonese.

Soho Cafe 4433 Kingston Pk., 766-0188. This café features stir fry and other international specialties in a casual, cozy atmosphere.

Szechuan Garden 4211 Chapman Hwy., 579-0889. This restaurant’s specialty is real Szechuan-style food. Tip: For even more authenticity, ask the chefs to make it for you like they’d make it for themselves.

Wok Hay 5018 Kingston Pk., 588-0933. They offer a quick casual dining experience and a moderately-priced, delicious Pan-Asian menu in an upscale environment.

Cha Cha 5130 Kingston Pk., 766-0902. Cha Cha is a modern nouveau classic restaurant and bar, serving a wide variety of “tapas” (appetizers) and main entrees including paella for two.

Club LeConte 800 S. Gay St., 523-0405. Upscale and old-world, Club LeConte serves classic French-American fare. Of note is the “China-town” seafood stir-fry. (Members only)

La Costa 31 Market Square, 566-0275. The menu features Nuevo Latino cuisine featuring local organic produce, natural beef, free-range game and fresh “non farm” seafood prepared daily.

Le Parigo 5803 Kingston Pike, 584-7744. This French restaurant specializes in fresh ingredients: all natural, organic meats, wild caught fish and regional food. They also feature French wines and old world style cocktails.

MK – McEwan’s Kitchen 1109 White Ave., 342-7683. Chef Chester Miller of EdisonPark Steakhouse offers breakfast, lunch and dinner creations in a unique setting.

New Amsterdam 1836 Cumberland Ave., 544-7080. This student-oriented establishment offers American cuisine, full bar, live music, weekend dancing, two levels (available for private parties), pool tables and darts.

Northshore Brasserie 9430 S. Northshore Dr., 539-5188. Northshore Brasserie is a full-service restaurant and bar serving Belgian/French comfort food in a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. They offer “plats du jour” along with classic fare such as steak frites and onion soup.

The Orangery 5412 Kingston Pk., 588-2964.  The excellence of its diverse menu, classic French to inspired international cuisines, paired with The Orangery’s exceptional wine list, ensures a sumptuous dining experience. Specialties include Chilean sea bass with red curry sauce and buffalo with fresh foi gras.

Puléo’s Grille I-40 at Exit 398, Strawberry Plains Pk., 673-9101; 260 N. Peters Rd., 691-1960. Steve Puléo dishes up a mix of Southern roots and Italian heritage. Puleo’s was voted “Best Restaurant” in Metro Pulse’s 2003 Best of Knoxville readers’ poll and the News Sentinel 2003 readers’ poll.

Sapphire 428 S. Gay St., 671-3737. Sapphire is a modern bar and restaurant, offering specialty drinks and small plates. 

Vicki's Cafe in Sequoyah Hills 1212 Kenesaw Ave., 524-5248. Now under new ownership, the cafe offers lunch and dinner specials and a Sunday brunch in the heart of Sequoyah Hills.  BYOB.

Sunspot 1909 Cumberland Ave., 637-4663. This restaurant, which was voted “Best Vegetarian Menu” in Metro Pulse’s readers’ poll, specializes in vegetarian items, including a tasty veggie burger, but they have plentiful offerings for carnivores, too.

Cuban

Alex’s Havana Cafe 5123 Homberg Dr., 588-8681. This casual café offers excellent Cuban, Spanish and Caribbean Cuisine, including seafood specials, black bean soup, arroz con pollo, paella, garlic lime roast pork, plantains, coconut cake, flan and tropical sodas and juices.

A Taste of Havana 10420 Kingston Pk., 693-4796. Located in the Lovell Heights Center, this restaurant and bakery specializes in authentic Cuban dishes such as roasted pork, shredded beef and Cuban sandwiches as well as Cuban desserts made in the on-site bakery.

Best Bagels in Town 120 S. Peters Rd. at Kingston Pk., 691-3154. While its specialty is bagels, this restaurants also features sandwiches and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Bellacino’s Mercedes Plaza, 558-9190. Chef Debbie Hutchinson makes pizzas and Italian grinders zesty, fast and delicious.

Firehouse Subs 1708 W. Cumberland Ave., 673-0864. Firehouse Subs offers hot and cold subway sandwiches, salads, chili and “chief’s platters,” which feed 8-10.

Frussie’s Deli 133 E. Moody Ave., 577-2108. James Dicks arrives every morning to bake 11 varieties of bread and roast such meats as turkey, pork and beef.

Garelli’s Deli 710 S. Gay St., 522-5115; 2044 N. Broadway, 546-9696. Overstuffed sandwiches, such as turkey and cheese or cheese, steak and onions, are heated on a flat grill. There are also daily specials.

Gus’s Good Time Deli 815 Melrose Pl., 525-9485. Spicy fries and hot deli sandwiches are served in a laid-back college atmosphere.

Jersey Mike’s Multiple Locations. Jersey Mike’s has offered authentic Italian subs since 1956, fresh baked bread, black angus roast beef cooked in-shop, “best Philly cheese steak in Knoxville,” party platters and daily specials.

Jimmy John’s 1903 Cumberland Ave., 637-1414. These guys brought “The Gargantuan” to Knoxville. Their most popular sandwich is bursting at the seams with salami, capicola, roast beef, ham, turkey, provolone and veggies.

Lenny’s Sub Shop Multiple Locations. Lenny’s was voted “Best Philly Cheese Steak” by Metro Pulse staffers in the Best of Knoxville. They have offered delicious subs and hot-off-the-grill Philly cheese steaks since 1979.

Mark’s Time-Out Deli 3001 Sutherland Ave., 522-3354. Deli sandwich kings for 33 years, they offer “the South’s finest submarine sandwiches.” 

McAllister’s Gourmet Deli Multiple Locations. McAllister’s offers a variety of sandwiches along with a very popular nacho basket.

Nixon’s Deli Multiple Locations. Hot deli sandwiches are made from quality meats and cheeses. They offer the St. Mary’s “Eat Hearty” menu.

Prince Deli 509 Lovell Rd., 777-4770. Prince’s specializes in burgers and steamed sandwiches along with live music in a relaxed atmosphere.

Quizno’s Multiple Locations. Quizno’s offers classic subs and salads along with soups and desserts. Patio dining is available at the Park West and Chapman Hwy. locations.

Sam and Andy’s Multiple Locations. The sandwiches and burgers are good and hot. V/MC accepted at Broadway and mall; cash/checks at Farragut.

Steak Escape Multiple Locations. Steak Escape offersPhilly Cheesesteak sandwiches along with ham, chicken and turkey subs, salads, baked potatoes and fresh cut fries.

Vic & Bill’s Multiple Locations. Besides deli sandwiches, Vic and Bill serve the best 3 a.m. pizza burgers in the world.

Fondue

The Melting Pot 111 N. Central Ave., 971-5400.  The wine list is about as good as it gets, but the fondue is the centerpiece of every meal. The chocolate fondue won the title of “Best Dessert” four years running in Metro Pulse’s Best of Knoxville readers’ poll.
